Adult Dual Diagnosis Program
The Dual Diagnosis Program offers short-term critical care intervention to patients
with co-occurring disorders. By using group and individual therapies, in addition
to psychiatric medications, patients and their families are educated about their
illnesses while being provided with referrals for continuing care in an outpatient
setting.
The primary focus of the dual diagnosis programming is psychiatric counseling for
patients with disorders such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. A framework
is designed to give particular attention to addictive and compulsive behaviors.
At Carrier Clinic, addiction is viewed not as a moral problem, but as a disease
process. We use state-of-the-art pharmacology not only for the control of psychiatric
symptoms but for craving reduction and relapse prevention of chemical abuse, gambling,
and other impulse control disorders such as sexual addiction, compulsive gambling,
self-mutilation and kleptomania.
The Dual Diagnosis Program is a highly integrated, multidisciplinary treatment approach
that is sensitive to cultural, religious, ethnic, socioeconomic and sexual diversity
throughout the adult population. Skilled assessment and diagnosis culminate in comprehensive
aftercare planning. To ensure continuity of care and relapse prevention, we help
patients and their families access community resources and negotiate their treatment
needs with private providers or social agencies. In addition, Carrier Clinic offers
six weeks of support and education by licensed addictions and psychiatric counselors
through our Weekend Codependency Program, at no cost to patients and their families.
